Do Air Compressors Have Piston's?

I have a industrial air compressor for general home use etc. It is a 2.5hp, only 6 months old.
It was 00 when i bought it brand new. My question is to air compressors have pistons and how do they work and if they do have pistons what do they do. my other question is if air compressors have pistons. do they look like car ones and have a crankshaft etc

Its almost exactly as a lawnmower engine, but instead of it driving something it is being driven by another motor. It almost works exactly like an engine but instead of burning fuel the pistons push air into the tank.

yes, just like an engine, only there is no spark plug. Just valves. also, you need to change the oil every couple years or so.

Yes to all. It’s just not internal combustion.

Yes, there are two types of compressors. Petrol driven and electric. The petrol type has an engine just like generator. And electric is powered by electricity at mains. They both drive the compressing unit. Inside the compressing unit, there is a piston that moves up and down. The valve open when it moves down, sucking in air and the valve closes when it moves up, forcing air into the compressor cylinder.

The compressor you have will have pistons, a crankshaft, etc.. But there are rotary compressors out there that do not, they are big and intended for industrial use. They pistons and whatnot do the exact same thing as those in an engine, but they are driven by a belt and pulley instead of by gas.

Some compressors use pistons that are almost identical to what you find in a car. Others use screws or vanes as on a rotary pump, or a rotor similar to the Wankel engine.

A 2.5 HP compressor that set you back a grand is either WAY overpriced, or you got one with a rotary style compressor unit.
