Lenox Merit Series Home AC unit will stop working during a certain part of the day?
I had a used Lenox central heat and air conditioning installed in my home a few months ago. When it’s working it cools down my 1200 sq. ft. home great. The problem I’m having is when I leave my unit on for a long period of time it stops cooling my house down, When I shut it off for about a 1/2 hour then turn it on again the compressor will kick in then it will start cooling my home again. Could this be an over charge? The installers installed a TXV Valve because the original piston wasn’t available. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou! DSmith
Kclifer, Thankyou for your answer, I will look into a pressure switch. I also forgot to mention, sometimes I can hose the condenser down with cool water after a minute or so the compressor will kick on? That baffles me as well:)
Hey Guys..Thanks for the response. I will certainly have the unit serviced for sure! I have a few more questions if you could help me out. I’m not sure if a HARD START was installed with the TXV, what would I look for? And are they expensive to install? And, If there was an over charge is it a pretty simple process to remove some of the R-22 coolant to a normal level? I will have to get another Heating and Cooling Company to service my unit, the original installers are not very helpful and will not respond to my issues.:(

It sounds like the compressor is overheating and the motor overload is kicking in. Once the compressor cools down then the unit will start again. This could be the result of an overcharge, but I would definitely call the AC company back and have them check the unit out.
