Here is a video on performing a compression test on an engine to assess it’s mechanical condition. An engines ability to compress air and fuel is directly proportional to it’s performance since an engine is nothing more than an air compressor once you take away all the controls. A compression test is a good general test that will give you an idea of the engine’s overall health but it does not give specific information on what the problem is should there be one, for that a “leak down test” would be required, I’ll be doing a video on that sometime in the future. However if you find yourself looking for the source of a performance problem with an engine, this is a great place to start. This test is often overlooked in favor of looking at the fuel or ignition system, I think that’s a mistake, if an engine can’t perform mechanically no amount of electronics will make that better. Recently, I hit the 500 subscriber mark and I’d like to thank all of my subscribers past, present, and hopefully in the future for that. I enjoy making these videos and the fact that you seem to like watching them means a lot to me. So, thanks for subscribing, rating, and commenting, those little contributions make it all worth while. Although sombody may have the time and resources to do it, I cannot see any reason to make a refrigerant compressor into a engine. converting a outboard to a water cooled horizontal engine would be easier.
This is a better video of the air engine. This was the semester long project we did in class for Machine Tool Technology at the University of Central Missouri. I would like to hook the engine up to something and do tests. The base is made out of a 3/4 in thick aluminum and the body and cylinder is mild steel. The flywheel and crank is made out of brass. I used most tools that you would use with metals. Vertical mill, horizontal mill, metal lathe, drill press and grinding machine, thread tap. I even machined the threads on the wrist pin.
A few ppl have asked for more info on using a fridge compresssor as an air pump in the past so I thought I’d show y’all my silent compressors to give an idea on how to construct one. The most important thing is a pressure regulator and cut-out switch to ensure the tank dosn;t over pressurize and burst. these compressors can put out a lot of pressure. The Tandem SC15’s that i have as a permanent workshop compressor barely become warm when charging the tank from dead flat to 100 PSI, they are rated at roughly 3/4 HP each and have no trouble seating tire beads, spray painting or running a small sand blaster.
MODEL : 130202 TYPE : 0523-03 CODE : 76012607 DOM – January 26, 1976 I pulled the muffler to check it, and the muffler port for carbon deposits. This is what I found. Campbell Hausfeld air compressor was used to blow them out.
Another adventure with Mrfixitrick and the Tesla CD Turbine. This time, a blender is shown with the CD Turbine in a powerful, self-contained recirculating system. The Tesla CD Turbine is a home-made turbine based on the principles of the Tesla Turbine, invented by Nikola Tesla over 100 years ago. This CD Turbine is made from recycled CD’s, CD cakebox, neodymium magnets and lots of glue. In this example, both water and air pressure are used at the same time, as an extra power boost for tough blending chores! And it’s all done without power from the grid or running tap water. Solar power charges a 12-volt battery. The battery runs both a 12-volt bilge pump in a recirculating bucket, and a 12-volt air compressor for an air storage tank. This is my home made Lister LD1 air compressor. The engine and air pump are rebuild. The pump is taken from a old truck (air brake) and the air tank is salvaged from the scrapheap (a 200 liter compressor tank).
This is an update on the progress of the Stirling Engine created from a standard air compressor. This hot air engine should finally get some power. The piston rings were removed as the machining of the pistons was very good. There is still good compression. The ring removal decreases friction dramatically and will allow for a good cycle. The Displacer is a Bikini Spray can that I got to fit perfectly. At the end is the ghost of Robert Stirling. Just kidding, think I have been working too hard.
