Although sombody may have the time and resources to do it, I cannot see any reason to make a refrigerant compressor into a engine. converting a outboard to a water cooled horizontal engine would be easier.
I decided to tear this pump down and demonstrate it before binning it, I’ve already done a few vids on rotary compressors before but theirs no harm in doing more detailed ones
Its from a single phase 240V powered 7.1Kw split unit that was scrapped because of a bad compressor motor.(short to earth)
Not sure what to do with the weber. last 2 serial number digits are 68, possible build in 1968?

This 70 HP 1914 Chicago Pneumatic air compressor is at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum at Vista, CA. It’s a horizontal one cylinder two cycle semi diesel oil engine. It has a bore of 11 inches and a stroke of 12 inches for 3396 cubes. The flywheel is 5′ 2′ and spins at 150 rpm. It operates with a direct injected hotbulb ignition. It is a compound engine that has two inline cylinders with the front cylinder used to power the engine and the rear cylinder used for compressing the air. Engines like this were built in varying sizes until 1925, and used in compressed air plants at mines. This engine was used at a mine in Quartzsite, Arizona and donated to the museum in 1983. Information is from the paper at the museum describing the engine. Video taken on 6-26-10.

One Cylinder fires while the second one compresses air, quite a nice package!.
I bought this 5hp, 150PSI, 20 gallon Craftsman Professional compressor on Friday (2/13) from a concrete construction company for . One guy said it wouldn’t start at all, and two other guys said it would start, fill the tank, and die. We had always wanted to get one of these so we can use air tools up in the woods where the tractors are. I figured if the engine was shot, I had the exact same Honda GC160 laying on a shelf doing nothing I could pull off all the parts I might need. Take a look and see what happens…
