DuraCoat Firearm Finishing Intro by Nutnfancy

Paint is a quick way to get the color you want on your gun and lots of troops just shoot their gun with some Krylon and call it good. But it’s not durable and most paints wear quickly. Enter DuraCoat by Lauer Weaponry in Wisconsin. They make a huge variety of durable epoxy finishes for guns that promise to wear extremely well. Moreover YOU, yes YOU, can even apply it. This is a quick video showing my application of “Stone” color DuraCoat to a Remington 700P .300WM rifle after appropriate preparation. The DuraCoat “Level II Starter Kit” includes an airbrush, air hose and couplings, 15 oz propellant can (which didn’t work well for me… had to use hobby air compressor for good results), mixing bottle, color bottle, mask, gloves, measuring spoons, 2 oz reducer, 1 oz TruLube (not used), and good instructions. Surface preparation is the most time consuming task; you’ll need to rough up smooth surfaces for preparation (Lauer also sells metal prep liquids which I feel are unnecessary). Make sure you do this in a ventilated area as shown. Results are impressive and I suspect I will be using their camo stencil kits in the future. Downsides are more expense (but much cheaper than other finishes like Robar’s NP3), more work than painting and it might be hard to relate the catalog color to your desired shade (mine was lighter than depicted)./////////////Nutnfancy Initial Likeability Scale: 9 out of 10

My First Attempt at Duracoat

I had planned on recording step by step well I started and after cleaning my shotgun I forgot to record myself doing the Duracoat prep as well as the start of my spraying. I only did the action and the barrel I had a barrel shroud on it (you can see it on the towel) but I decided not to put it back on after coating. I also forgot to shoot the mag extender (I will do that the next time I coat something). This was a fun project! I had to actually buy an air compressor (been meaning to anyway) because I ran out of the canned propellant, As you can hardly see (if at all) the spray in the video…… That’s when I remembered to start spraying it again!

How To Make An Air Rifle Spring Compressor

Here is something I know alot of people ask about, but I have yet to see a video on the subject (I may stand corrected, I personally have just never seen one). Building a spring compressor to modify or cleanup your air rifle, all for about depending on what materials and tools you already have. I have to stress yet again that this a direct reflection of your own skill, no to say I am a professional or anything, but I have 2 diplomas in technical fields and a few years of experience, so I am confident in my own building abilities. If you are not, do not attempt this, if you don’t know how to disassemble your gun completely do not attempt this. Not trying to scare anyone, just letting you know there can be serious pressure when you release the lock pin, and serious injury could occur if the correct precautions are not taken. So for those with the proper abilities and tools this is not a very difficult project by any means, and if you follow the directions and think logically you will have no problems. If you have any questions message me and i’ll try to help as best i can….

Squib test with air compressor

This is the Squib test I did using an air compressor. I might make a tutorial for how to make a good set up. I also used a little computer effects for the front of my head to make it a little more realistic.
