The title says what it is. A pretty common horizontal roll around compressor from sears. Its probably 10 years old if i had to guess. Runs like a champ when you first fill the tank. Once there is pressure on the tank, when it kicks on to refill after useage it bogs down and trips the breaker. If i drain the air outta the tank and turn it on it runs like a champ. I dont understand what would make it bog down with pressure but im also not familiar with the internals of the pump. Thanks ahead of time for your ideas!!
I am looking to buy a air compressor and i am looking at sears and harbor freight i look at harbor and i see that they have a 3 hp and 21 gallon for 150 and then i look at sears which has a 17 gal and 1.1 hp for 199. So i am thinking what does the hp do for the air compressor
I was told that Sears is getting ready to put their craftsman 1 hp, 7 gallon portable air compressor on sale for 139.99. I can get the same deal right now at Lowes but their brand is a campbell Hausfeld. Which do you think is the best one to go with?
Compressor was on, filling tank, like normal. then all of a sudden the noise coming from the motor changed pitch and was not as loud as usual. So I immediately shut it off.
I took the head off, reed valves look fine. Piston not seized, plenty of oil in it. I took apart check valve, appears normal. No apparent leaks coming from tank or drain valve.
The compressor still runs and I can feel air being pumped out when check valve is removed. I am at a loss. Please help !!
Sears model # 921.16640.
I have checked the pressure relief valve. Pressure will not even move needle on pressure gauge.
I have also checked piston cylinder and head for leakage, I don’t believe that is the problem.
Problem solved … it was the head gasket ! Just not around the perimeter of the gasket, it was the piece in the middle of the intake / exhaust that broke off. I cut a new gasket myself and it works fine. Thanks !!
I have a Craftsman air compressor that doesn’t work anymore. I think it needs a new pump, but rather than buy the Sears replacement parts, I was thinking of customizing it and building a homemade, modified version myself. Where is a good place to buy something like that?
Grainger is a good suggestion, but that is all industrial quality stuff…too expensive for what I need. Any other suggestions?
what is the best air compressor from lowes or sears to buy for the air compressor to work all attacment. Is dewalt or kobalt or craftmans air compressor the best which brand of compressor is the best. range from 0-350$
Old Sears air compressor, modified with a new 3 HP 220V motor, and an intercooler made from a Chrysler air conditioning condenser It originally had a 5HP briggs engine on it, which threw a rod. I also added the bleed-off valve (valve in front of the pump), the regulator, and the moisture separators. Next upgrade will be a new pump since the rings are starting to go in this one.
I had it fixed by sears professionals a few times and it continued to break so I decided to fix it myself and it still continues to break. The time that it last varies from days to weeks. Please help if you have any info on this. Thanks!
I have had it several years and no longer under warranty, also it is an oil free model.
