Why does my air compressor not hold air for very long? And why does it lose pressure so fast?

i have a no-name, 5hp, 30gal air compressor that i bought from Kragen. It has never worked as well as a tank that size should. I let it run until it shuts off (once the tank is full), and after that, I have only a really strong supply of air for maybe 5 full minutes before i begin to lose serious pressure. And with no real pressure behind them, my air tools are too weak to do anything worthwhile. I cannot even remove the nuts off of my tires! Oil level is fine, the hose has no leaks that i can see, and the tools are properly maintained and oiled everyday. What am i doing wrong? Is it because I should have done things the right way and bought a Craftsman? …..thanks 4 any help.

What is the best multi purpose air compressor?

I would like to buy an air compressor that I can use for both inflating car and bike tires, as well as for tools like framing, brad and finishing nailers. Compact size and budget conscious too. Any suggestions?

What size compressor should I buy to take tires off of my car with a 1/2 drive impact wrench?

I want to be able to rotate my tires in my garage at home. There are plenty of air compressors available, but I am not sure what size compressor I should buy? Is 100 PSI enough to remove the lug nuts or should I go for more PSI?

carburetor question about soaking and air compressor?

i need to soak my carburetor in carb cleaner and then blow the jets (air and fuel) out with an air compressor.

1) How do you soak the carb in cleaner when all of the carb cleaners are aerosol sprays that evaporate quickly?

2) If i don’t have an air compressor, what’s the next best thing to buy/use?
Can i go to a gas station and use the air compressor for tires somehow?
I have also been looking for compressors at home depot but i’m looking for something under . Any recommendations? Is it better to buy an air can?

What do I need to know about air compressors before I buy one?

I want to get an air compressor mainly to remove the bolt on tires quickly among the many other uses it has. I need to know is there a certain pressure or size I should get? (As you can tell, I am kind of lost on the subject). Is there anything else that someone could inform me about on air compressors for the specific use I need it for? Any and all info is welcom and helpful. Thanks in advance.

I need a quiet air compressor, which is best?

Hi,

I’m in the market for an electric air compressor, and am having a hard time selecting the right model for me. Can you help point me in the right direction, or give me a few suggestions?

My preferences in order are:

1. Noise the lower, the better. This trumps all other preferences.

2. 5+ CFM at 90 PSI

3. I would prefer oil-free, but not if oiled compressors are 10dBA difference quieter.

4. Don’t mind / would prefer a large 15-30 gallon tank.

This is for home garage use air impact wrench, filling car tires, nail gun, possibly paint in the future: hence the 5+ cfm. I have an HOA to worry about, and I’m concerned as to my neighbors who share a common wall with my garage, so noise level is my top concern. I’d like to spend about 0-400, however, if there are models you would recommend which make a difference as to my requests, then I’d consider spending up to about 0 (or more if I’m simply requesting what is not possible). I’ve seen a DeWalt ( http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200331365_200331365 ) 15gal, ~5cfm, 78dba online, which was called “quiet”, but I’m hoping there are others which are quieter.

Thanks!
Monic,

That’s a little bigger than I’m looking for ideally. It would be okay, however, it doesn’t list the noise anywhere, which is my whole reason for posting this…?…
I should add… i’m looking to keep it standard 120V as well… thanks.
renpen,

Thanks for your response. I plan on building an enclosure with acoustical insulation, and a bathroom fan incorporated in. Do you know of any air compressors that are better than others? Should I definitely get an oilled compressor? The dewalt i listed above, is *supposed* to be on the quiet end, but i googled around and apparently you can get them down to 30dba (opposed to 78). I’m just not sure if that’s for the -4K and up compressors….

Tubeless wheels with non-tubeless tires using Stan’s sealant

I bought some Stan’s No Tubes sealant from Jenson USA and decided to give it a try today. The first tire went on much easier and I was able to get the bead seated with just a normal bike pump. The 2nd tire didn’t go on as easy so I used an air compressor and it went on in no time. Use caution when using an air compressor because you don’t want to over inflate the tire. After 2 loud pops the bead will be set and you will be on the trails in no time. Thanks to Jenson USA I was able to get 32 ounces of Stan’s No Tubes sealant for a very reasonable off www.jensonusa.com. Jenson USA is by far the best shop for all your cycling needs and always has the lowest prices.
